Totem Farm Garden

After 23 years, we have decided to sell  Totem Farm and plan on moving to the UK. I made this video as a farewell to my garden. I Hope you enjoy it.

    I first visited your garden 9 years ago and have followed it here and on instagram, enjoying the changes and watching it evolve. I believe we are all saddened to think that will end, but will continue to watch what you will do next. Gratitude.

    Corin said it really well. I wish you the best on your new adventures, but regret I didn’t get to see your garden more often. At least I have a few plants to remember it by–thanks for sharing!

    I just happened upon this and am sad that I did not discover this blog before. As a transplanted Brit, I often dreamed of returning home, but 46 years have rushed under the bridge with such astonishing speed that I find myself not only stunned and incredulous but also incredibly nostalgic and wistful.
    Gardening is also my passion (landscapes such as yours is what I aspire to) and so I do wonder how difficult it will be for you to leave behind what is very obviously a place where you have deposited your very soul for over 20 years.
    Thank you for posting the video of such a lovely and inspirational place. And I look forward to reading past blogs and following you on your journey. Best wishes as you embark on your new adventures.

      Hi Liz,
      Thank you for your lovely comment. My wife is Scottish, and I made my first garden in the highlands. Now she wants to be near family and old friends. I always knew we would go back. I have left a couple of big projects such as this and learned a while ago that’s the pleasure is in the doing not some future ideal. I will take with me many hard learned lessons and begin a new. Hopefully a walled garden- I need boundaries!

    Thanks so much for sharing that insight and those words of wisdom …”The pleasure of doing and not some future ideal” are words that will serve me well and will help immeasurably as we go forward on our journey. The challenge is to be brave enough to do that, even though we are starting at a much older age than you.

    I can only repeat what I’ve said elsewhere, dear Don. Your gardens are a work of high art and much love and devotion over many years. The joy you have in them is palpable—-they’ve brought joy to your friends, and will bring joy to whoever is lucky enough to inhabit them once you leave them behind.💚💚💚
