Extending the Vegetable Plot

I have not felt like blogging all week. It’s been a very unsettling week  starting with the London riots and then the global stock market crash. The Republicans keep threatening to get rid of Medicare and Social Security. I am beginning to wonder how I am going to be able to exist in my dotage. The world seems quite mad at the moment. In  stressful times, I like to find a task to take my mind off things.  I decided it would probably be a good idea to extend the vegetable garden because they way things are going I am going to need to live off the land.

A lot of the soil here in Delaware County is hard pan-( sub soil like concrete.) I removed the sod for the new beds and then painstakingly dug out the rocks. Once the rocks were cleared, I added several cartloads of composted manure, which will have time to settle before I plant next spring.

Your new plots look great and those of us that live in the city are quite jealous.
If Social Security and Medicare go poof I don’t think it will be because of the Republicans. It is an endangered species for sure.
